U.S. bans technology exports to Chinese semiconductor and drone companies, calling them security threats
The Washington Post – 19/12/2020 – The Trump administration has added prominent Chinese semiconductor and drone manufacturers to an export blacklist, an attempt to continue exerting pressure on Beijing in the final weeks of the Trump presidency. The Commerce Department said it has placed Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp., or SMIC; drone maker DJI; and dozens of other Chinese companies and universities on the Entity List, which bans the export of U.S. technology to the entities unless the exporter receives a government license… lire l’article

Threod Systems Releases New Pneumatic UAV Launcher
UST drones – 17/12/2020 – Threod Systems has developed a new pneumatic launcher for UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), the CATA. The launcher operates even in harsh environmental conditions, works with UAVs weighing up to 150 kg, and is capable of accelerating a 60 kg aircraft to a maximum end velocity of 52 m/s. Provided on a dual-axle trailer with height-adjustable tow bar and four large tyres, the entire system weighs 2500 kg in total and can be transported with a variety of on- or off-road vehicles. EASA Publishes Regulatory Framework for Drone Services

Battlefield UAV Communications System Reaches Combat Flight Milestone
UST drones – 18/12/2020 – Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) gateway system, which is currently flown on four EQ-4B Block 20 Global Hawk unmanned aerial systems (UAS), has reached 200,000 combat operational flight hours. The system was first deployed with the U.S. Air Force in 2008. The BACN system is a high-altitude, airborne communications gateway that translates and distributes imagery, voice and tactical data from a variety of sources, enhancing situational awareness communications and coordination for joint warfighters operating in all domains.
