sUAS News – 12.01.2021 – In December of 2020, Latvia welcomed its first-ever gift delivery completed by a drone. A parcel consisting of tablets was “shipped” with joint efforts of Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT), SPH Engineering, and DPD Latvija. The drone’s Beyond the Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flight was conducted entirely on the mobile network, and the flying drone used a remote ID device prototype made by LMT, as well as UgCS drone mission and route planning software by SPH Engineering. LMT’s remote ID device prototype is a drone-mounted device that enhances the drone with remote flight capabilities. The device’s SIM card provides two functionalities – remote identification and location tracking of the UAV according to the GPS signal. Combined, they offer additional security and transparency, making BVLOS flights possible… lire l’article
UAS weekly – 12.01.2021 – uAvionix today launched its upgraded dual-frequency ADS-B receiver, pingStation 2. The high-integrity, low-cost ADS-B ground station provides for networkable low-altitude airspace and airport surface monitoring, as well as Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Ground Control Station (GCS) integration for Detect & Avoid (DAA) capability. pingStation 2 integrates 978 and 1090 MHz ADS-B receivers, GPS, antenna, and Power-Over-Ethernet (POE) interface into an easy-to-install, rugged IP67 weatherproof enclosure. With a selection of non-proprietary data interfaces, pingStation 2 is designed to integrate into a multitude of end-user applications, including airport displays, UAS GCS, Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) Solutions, and Flight Information Displays (FID). pingStation 2 is robust enough to be permanently mounted outdoors in harsh environmental conditions and small enough to be used as a mobile asset for roaming operations… lire l’article
Forbes – 12.01.2021 – Cusp Technologies, a tech startup based in Dubai, is advertising a “magnetic shield” to defend against drone attacks and promises to display it at the IDEX 2021 defense trade show in Abu Dhabi in February. The new technology is advertised with an image of drones blowing up as they run into an invisible wall; it appears to be based on a new technique that projects magnetic fields. Is this the counter-drone solution that everyone is looking for? By now, nobody should be underestimating the scale of the problem. The Pentagon released a new Counter Unmanned Systems Strategy last week, noting that readily available drones are creating “hazards to DoD operations in the air, land, and maritime domains” and may be operated by state, non-state and criminal actors… lire l’article
Inside Unmanned Systems – 12.01.2021 – Boeing conducts an MQ-25 Stingray deck-handling demonstration at its St. Louis facility. Last month the U.S. Navy reached a major milestone toward its “game-changing” goal of fielding carrier-based aerial refueling drones, flight-testing a Boeing T1 prototype fitted with the same aerial refueling system (ARS) used by the Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornets. The prototype is being used to develop the MQ-25 Stingray, a refueling tanker drone the Navy says will be the world’s first aircraft carrier-based UAV. But it’s so advanced the Navy doesn’t yet have pilots who can fly it. To find them, the Navy has announced a major effort to recruit and train a new generation of UAV operators with skills not seen before… lire l’article
UAS weekly – 12.01.2021 – C-Astral team values new and existing customers equally. However, the existing, seasoned operator has a unique and distinctive feature. They know the system, all the pros and the cons: and a customer coming back for an upgrade of operational system is one of the best positive affirmations a company could wish for: The Cyprus based Joint Rescue Coordination Center has been operating Bramor C4EYE for more than 4 years. The scenarios of their SAR missions call for aerial surveillance on both land and sea. Having discussed the customer CONOPS(Concept Of Operations) in comparison to our organic development the customer recognized and confirmed the system enhancement in order to achieve even better results. The GCS of the system is integrated into their mobile van as a rapidly deployable tactical operations centre. The initial objective of the project was the customers intent to extend the optical surveillance beyond their existing network of the stationary vessel traffic surveillance system… lire l’article

Marlbourough District Council – 08.01.2021 – Move over Air New Zealand, there is a new safety message in the skies – this time over the waters of the Marlborough Sounds. In what is believed to be a New Zealand-first, this Saturday morning Marlborough’s Harbourmaster will trial delivering safe boating messages by drone with a clip-on sound system. The ground (air) breaking project, being delivered in partnership with local radio station brian fm, has been funded by Maritime New Zealand. Harbourmaster Luke Grogan said he was always looking for opportunities to highlight boating safety and seeing drone technology being applied to COVID-19 responses globally sparked the idea. “Middle age blokes are often pretty resistant to the safer boating message but it’s this group that dominates the accident statistics.”… lire l’article
