Digital Radio Frequency Memory Market Giants to Grow at Much Faster Pace | Key players Northrop Grumman, Thales Group, Raytheon Company

The digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) is a device with storage means in which the radar signal is stored, controlled with jamming signals and then retransmitted to the threat. The digital radio frequency memory stores complete radar pulses together with their modulations, e.g. intrapulse modulation, it also stores RF pulses of different pulse repetition intervals (PRIs) without losing consistency and can immediately follow frequency agile radars. The purpose of the DRFM technique is to use high-speed sampling to digitally store and re-form radio frequency and microwave signals.

Key Players in This Report Include,
Northrop Grumman Corporation (United States), Thales Group (France), Raytheon Company (United States), BAE Systems plc (United Kingdom), Israel Aerospace Industries (Israel), Rohde & Schwarz (Germany), Elbit Systems Ltd (Israel), Leonardo S.p.A. Intelligent Design of Electronic Assets (IDEA)

DARPA – Mr. Serge Leef – Next-generation intelligent systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) applications like artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, shared spectrum communication, electronic warfare, and radar require processing efficiency that is orders of magnitude beyond what is available through current commercial electronics. Reaching the performance levels required by these DoD applications however will require developing highly complex system-on-chip (SoC) platforms that leverage the most advanced integrated circuit technologies. Despite advances in electronic design automation (EDA) tools, the complexity associated with the design and verification of integrated circuits (ICs) continues to increase rapidly due in part to the steady progress of Moore’s Law. To help meet design requirements, commercial electronics manufacturers creating advanced hardware solutions will employ large teams of designers, each with expertise in a specific facet of the design flow. For the DoD however, researchers and development teams do not have the resources available to effectively execute such a strategy, resulting in hardware design cycles that are two to three times longer than commercial establishments… lire la suite ou lire la présentation ppt. de la DARPA

Shared Spectrum Access for Radar and Communications (SSPARC)

DARPA – The Shared Spectrum Access for Radar and Communications (SSPARC) program seeks to improve radar and communications capabilities through spectrum sharing. Spectrum congestion is a growing problem. It increasingly limits operational capabilities due to the increasing deployment and bandwidth of wireless communications, the use of net-centric and unmanned systems, and the need for increased flexibility in radar and communications spectrum to improve performance and to overcome sophisticated countermeasures. Radar and communications jointly consume most of the highly desirable spectrum below 6 GHz. SSPARC seeks to develop sharing technology that enables sufficient spectrum access within this desirable range for radar and communications systems to accomplish their evolving missions. Adaptive Radar Countermeasures (ARC)

Current airborne electronic warfare (EW) systems must first identify a threat radar to determine the appropriate preprogrammed electronic countermeasure (ECM) technique. This approach loses effectiveness as radars evolve from fixed analog systems to programmable digital variants with unknown behaviors and agile waveforms. Future radars will likely present an even greater challenge as they will be capable of sensing the environment and adapting transmissions and signal processing to maximize performance and mitigate interference effects. The goal of the Adaptive Radar Countermeasures (ARC) program is to enable U.S. airborne EW systems to automatically generate effective countermeasures against new, unknown and adaptive radars in real-time in the field… lire la suite

Domain-Specific System on Chip (DSSoC)

DARPA – The general-purpose computer has remained the dominant computing architecture for the last 50 years, driven largely by the relentless pace of Moore’s Law. As this trajectory shows signs of slowing, however, it has become increasingly more challenging to achieve performance gains from generalized hardware, setting the stage for a resurgence in specialized architectures. Today’s specialized, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) — hardware customized for a specific application — offer limited flexibility and are costly to design, fabricate, and program. The Domain-Specific System on Chip (DSSoC) program seeks to prove that there need not be a continued tradeoff between efficiency, like that found in ASICs, and flexibility, the hallmark of general-purpose processors. The goal of DSSoC is to develop a heterogeneous system-on-chip (SoC) comprised of many cores that mix general purpose processors, special purpose processors, hardware accelerators, memory, and input/output (I/O) devices to significantly improve performance of applications within a domain. A domain is larger than any one application, where one processor can effectively address problems more efficiently than a general purpose processor but without the challenge, time, and cost of building a special-purpose system like an ASIC. DSSoC is exploring architectures that improve the efficiency of computing through specialized processing while maintaining programmability… lire la suite
